Telling the Truth to Yourself

Webster’s New World Dictionary defines truth as: the quality or state of being true; loyalty; trustworthiness; sincerity; genuineness; honesty.  The quality of being in accordance with experience, facts, or reality; reality; actual existence.

Do you tell the truth to yourself?  Are you in denial about who you are or what you truly think?  Do you prefer others to lie to you or tell you the truth when asked?  Do you prefer to lie to others rather than speak your truth?

We tend to lie not only to others but to ourselves.  We lie about the way we feel, we lie about the way we think and we lie about our life and how we live it.

There is an old saying “The truth can set your free” which is deeper and more profound than we may realize.  Lying to ourselves and to others holds us in bondage.  We never really feel free until we begin to tell the truth – the whole truth and nothing but the truth.  Opinions are just that – they are not facts, they are not truth – they are just opinions.  Truth is based on facts or reality – not opinion.

Start telling the truth to yourself today.  Commit to telling the truth to others and watch how things will start to change in a positive direction overall.  You will start to feel free.  You will build your self-esteem.  You will never have to wonder what you said because if you stated the truth then that is what will be remembered.

“Time is precious, but truth is more precious than time.” Benjamin Disraeli
