We have all been raised with the phrase “Sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me.” This statement is not true. In fact it is an out right lie! Words do hurt.
Words do cause pain, anger, frustration, low self-esteem, a feeling of emptiness, loneliness, and emotional withdrawal. These are just a few of the things words can do. They can create a negative outlook on life or they can create a positive outlook on life. They can create success or they can create failure. There is not one person in this world that has not been wounded or hurt by other people’s words, nor is there a person that has not been affected by their own choice of words.
Think of words as being boomerangs – what you say will come back to you. If you say you can’t do something then you create the can’t. If you say you are a failure then you create the failures. If you talk in a negative way you will create negative things to happen in our lives. If you say you will try then you will only try. If you say you will do something then you commit to doing not just trying to do. Your create your reality through your own choice of words.
If you criticize others then you will be criticized. If you lie to others then you will be lied to. If you steal from others then others will steal from you. If you cheat others then others will cheat you. If you gossip about others then you will be the subject of gossip. What you give out you will get back. It is the law of boomerangs. What you send out you will always get back in one way or another.
When you change your words you will change your life. Think before you speak.
Make positive affirmations and create more happiness and success in your life. We recommend you use the following replacement words to create more self-confidence and to build self-esteem.
Replace the words “I can’t” with “I haven’t yet.”
Replace the words “If I” with “When I.”
Replace the words “I will try” with “I will do.”
Replace the words “That’s going to be a problem” with “That’s going to be a challenge.”
Replace the words “I don’t know” with “I will find out.”
Replace the words “What a failure” with “What a success –I learned something.”
Practice using these replacement words until they become a natural automatic way of speaking and thinking. In other words practice and repeat them often until they become a habit. You will be pleased with the results!” Our minds become magnetized with the dominating thoughts we hold in our minds and these magnets attract to us the forces, the people, the circumstances of life which harmonize with the nature of our dominating thoughts.” Recommended Reading: What You Say Is What You Get : How to Master Power Talking, the Language of Success
